A Letter from our Chair

We are happy to announce that Habitat board member Christian Recknagel has been appointed to the leadership position of Board Chair for 2022. Please find below a personal letter of introduction from Christian as he assumes his new role.

Greetings,

My name is Christian Recknagel, and I have been nominated to serve as the Board Chair for Lancaster Lebanon Habitat for Humanity in 2022.  As I prepare to start this new role, I’d like to share a bit about myself with you, including my excitement for the work ahead of us.

I live in the City of Lancaster with my family, and work as the Chief People Officer at TAIT in Lititz. I was introduced to Habitat when my wife and I were living in New Jersey; we supported youth programming at the Presbyterian church we attended.  For five years we served as chaperones for week-long trips with 20+ teenagers that supported the construction of Habitat homes in Virginia and Maryland.  On several of these trips, we were able to work alongside future homeowners fulfilling their sweat equity hours. These experiences always left everyone feeling humbled by the opportunity to help others secure a home of their own.

When I was asked to serve on Lancaster Lebanon Habitat’s board in 2017, I gladly accepted the opportunity to become active again in supporting Habitat’s vision of “a world where everyone has a decent place to live.”  Over this time, I worked closely with Andrew, the board and staff to establish best practices, policies and goals for growth that better positioned Habitat for future success, including serving more families through our home construction efforts.

As the global pandemic continues to challenge our world, I believe that Habitat’s work is more critical than ever. Home has become the centerpiece of our lives—our work place and classroom, our primary space for connecting and, most importantly, our safe haven. An affordable, decent home is an essential need that should be available to all who seek it.

I am grateful for the chance to play a role in making homeownership happen for more local families, and I look forward to working with you… whether you help us through committees, on the work sites or through your financial contributions.  My door is open for feedback and questions as we move through 2022 so I welcome you to reach out to me via email; semcjr@gmail.com or phone; 717.682.5506.

In partnership,
