Due to the economic disruption caused by the global pandemic, Pennsylvania is bracing for a foreclosure crisis. Over one million residents are delinquent on their mortgages. And, an equal number of Pennsylvanians who are receiving unemployment assistance will lose their benefits as of December 26th.
This is where HEMAP can help.
The Homeowners Emergency Mortgage Assistance Program was created to protect Pennsylvanians who, through no fault of their own, are financially unable to make their mortgage payments and are in danger of losing their homes to foreclosure. HEMAP offers loans to homeowners that will enable them to keep their homes. It is not a grant. All loans must be repaid
But there is a huge gap between what is needed by Pennsylvanians facing their personal housing crisis and what is available in funds. Currently, there is only $10 million in HEMAP… an amount that would help less than 900 families.
We need your voice to help save homes. Please contact your local legislators to urge them allocate more state funds to HEMAP. You can find your representatives at commoncause.org. Also, follow and share PA Save Our Homes on Facebook to learn more about this movement, as well as read in more detail about HEMAP here.
