The Linden Street Build

On the heels of our last multi-home project in Columbia, completed last year, our Habitat team is gearing up for the next build in the borough. This spring we will break ground on The Linden Street Build.

Located across from the Turkey Hill Experience at N. 4th and Linden Streets, a grassy lot will be the site of five Habitat homes. Designed by Hammel Associates Architects, the houses will sit side by side as a multi-family structure, much like our previous project on Columbia’s S. 5th Street.

Each of the five homes has already been matched with its future Habitat family, all of whom are ready to get to work. They can expect to grab their hard hats sometime this July, when our dedicated construction volunteers begin to work their magic on the site. In the months prior, subcontractors will excavate the lot and build both the foundation and exterior shell of the structure.

A launch event on May 1st celebrated the start of construction. Homebuyers Abiot, Andy, Donescha and Stephanie (pictured above) drove golden shovels into the earth as the symbolic breaking of ground. Habtamu, the fifth homebuyer, was unable to attend. Pastor Rick Whitesel from St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church offered a blessing for the homes.

Later this year, the Linden Street Build will be one of two host sites for this year’s Women Build Week. Held Sept 23-27, the event will welcome approximately 20 female participants each day as part of the all-women takeover of Habitat build sites. To learn more, follow this link. Those interested in volunteering–both men and women–should begin to check the volunteer portal in early summer for available shifts.
