About the Mural
We partnered with local artist Steve Wilson to create a concept and design for the 40th anniversary mural. Once the design was in place, Wilson and teammate Brenda Blank – who have collaborated on 20-30 murals in and around Lancaster County – climbed up on the scaffolding and started to bring the concept to life.
“Habitat’s mission is great because it brings people together,” says Wilson. “When you apply to be a Habitat homebuyer you have to put some skin in the game and we tried to convey the steps in the process throughout the mural.”
Besides illustrating the journey of a Habitat family, the mural also highlights community from nods to local landmarks to the many people who come together to help make affordable homeownership a reality.
“My husband works in real estate,” says Blank. “And knowing the housing market, it’s a difficult thing. So there has to be a community working together for people that need affordable housing to make it work like this. And Habitat does that.”
